MFA II Student Exhibition:

December 14th 2020 – January 17th, 2021

Artist Statement
Ann-Marie Mountford
I create my work, frequently in series and often in relief, through mixed-media collage or structure, continually drawing from life and my imagination, to explore and develop new images, juxtaposing vibrant color against more muted hues. I am influenced by graphic, biomorphic or fractured forms derived most often from the art of ancient cultures, such as Mesopotamia. My pervasive background in fashion and design heavily influence my perception of color, pattern and form. I torque, exaggerate and twist the figure to form unexpected shapes and contours. Concepts stem from my imagination; scrambled dreams, fairytales and inner fantasy worlds, tongue-in-cheek, optimistic and subversive. The forms I create evolve into divergent character traits or emotions, engaging viewers to imagine their own chaotic narrative.
