Sam Messer: Time in the Still Image

The Evening Lecture Series is free and open to the public. With inquiries, please contact Kara Carmack at kcarmack@nyss.org.

NY-based artist Sam Messer is the recipient of many awards including a Pollock-Krasner Grant and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. He has been drawing and painting for 40 years, dedicated to noticing the world around him. Recently Messer has become very curious about time and how it is embedded in a work through process, subject, and the maker. Messer has taught at Yale for the past 20 years and currently serves as Associate Dean and the Director of the Yale Norfolk Summer Program.
