Independent Curator and Art Historian, and Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art, NY, where he directed more than twenty exhibitions, from “Fauvism and its Affinities” (1976) and “Kurt Schwitters” (1985) to “Manet and the Execution of Maximilian” (2006), “Martin Puryear” (2007) and the celebrated “Matisse, Radical Invention, 1913-1917” (2010). Current projects include “De Kooning: A Retrospective”, scheduled for 2011 at The Museum of Modern Art.
