Jed Perl and Geoffrey O’Brien: Writing American Art

A Conversation Celebrating the Publication by the Library of America of “Art in America: 1945-1970: Writings from the Age of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, and Minimalism,” edited by Jed Perl.

Jed Perl: Art Critic, The New Republic. His books include Magicians and Charlatans, Antoine’s Alphabet, New Art City, and Eyewitness. A twenty-fifth anniversary edition of his first book, Paris Without End, has just been published by Arcade. He is currently writing the first full-length biography of Alexander Calder. Perl is the recipient of awards from the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Academy in Rome.

Geoffrey O’Brien: Editor-in-Chief, Library of America, and a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books. Among his many books of poetry and prose are Red Sky Café, The Fall of the House of Walworth, Sonata for Jukebox, The Browser’s Ecstasy, The Phantom Empire, and Dream Time. He is the recipient of awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the American Academy in Berlin.
