Jane Swavely studied at Boston University and the School of Visual Arts in New York and is the recipient of a Ford Foundation Fellowship. Her work is in numerous public and private collections, including the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection and the Allentown Art Museum in Pennsylvania. Previously represented by CDS Gallery in New York and A.I.R. Gallery, and is currently represented by Magenta Plains Gallery. Swavely has shown in solo exhibitions at Magenta Plains Gallery in New York, Night Gallery in Los Angeles, A.I.R. Gallery, CDS Gallery, the New Arts Program in Kutztown, PA, Loyola College in Baltimore, the Mandeville Gallery at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. as well as in group exhibitions here and abroad. In 2026, Swavely will open her second solo exhibition at Magenta Plains, New York, mount her first solo exhibition in Italy at Kaufman Repetto, Milan, It and will be included in Painting in Color, a museum exhibition at the Currier Museum, Manchester, NH.
Swavely’s abstract paintings attempt to reconcile romanticism and minimalism while referencing natural and cinematic elements.
