Debra Bricker Balken: Harold Rosenberg and “The Herd of Independent Minds”

Debra Bricker Balken is an award-winning writer and curator who works on subjects relating to American modernism and contemporary art. Her recent publications include Harold Rosenberg, A Critic’s Life (University of Chicago Press, 2021) and Arthur Dove, A Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings and Things (Yale University Press, 2021). She is currently working as the lead curator on Americans in Paris, Artists Working in Postwar France, 1946-1962, opening at the Grey Art Gallery, New York University, in 2024.
