Alexander Nemerov writes about being haunted by the past and about moments of presence in art and life. His new book Soulmaker: The Times of Lewis Hine (2016) follows the recent Silent Dialogues: Diane Arbus and Howard Nemerov, a memoir about his aunt and father. Nemerov is Chair of the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University where he is the Carl and Marilynn Thoma Provostial Professor of Arts and Humanities.
