Eric Karpeles is a painter who writes about painting and the intersection of visual and literary aesthetics. Author of Paintings in Proust and Almost Nothing: The    20th Century Art and Life of Józef Czapski, he has also produced an artist’s monograph, Józef Czapski: An Apprenticeship of Looking and translated Lost Time:   Lectures on Proust in a Soviet Prison Camp from the French. Karpeles is a fellow of the Czesław Miłosz Institute at Claremont McKenna College.
