John Newman
Instructor
John received his BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from Yale School of Art, MFA. Along with studying at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program, 1971. He has participated in over 40 one-person shows in galleries and museums in New York, Los Angeles, Munich, Dusseldorf, among others. Numerous group exhibitions in galleries and museums including Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, The Albertina, Walker Art Center, Tate Gallery, American Institute of Arts and Letters, among others. Selected Public Collections include: Museum of Modern Art; Metropolitan Museum; Whitney Museum; Brooklyn Museum; Yale Art Gallery; The Nasher Collection; Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Selcected Large Scale Public Commissions include: City of Richmond, Virginia Public Art Program; Grounds for Sculpture, Mercerville, New Jersey; Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, NY; General Mills, Minneapolis and Minnesota. Grants and Residencies: Joan Mitchell Foundation, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Rome Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, Gottlieb Foundation, Pollack-Krasner Foundation, NEA, NYFA, Irish Museum of Modern Artists’ Work Programme, Yaddo, MacDowell. He has lectured and taught at various institutions throughout USA, Europe and Asia.
