New York Studio School is pleased to present the work of our Certificate graduates in two exhibitions, the second of which features work by graduate Suzanne Scott. Suzanne writes, “My work consists of an examination into the idealization of beauty and reverence, drawing upon mythology and theology, as well as physical, mental and emotional ability or disability. Utilizing a narrative approach to delve into these inquiries; employing iconography, hierarchy, symbolism and historical reference, I apply my own life experience. I aim to have just the vapor of the myth remain, with the bones of the account being my own, while incorporating contemporary perspectives into these established standards. This body of work investigates the age-old tale of ‘woman as muse’; the entrapment of objects of beauty and wonder for public viewing pleasure.”
