“When color is particular and integral to a sculpture, it is not descriptive, literal, arbitrary, provisional or secondary, but rather actively transforms the meaning and space of the sculpture.
How can color function in sculpture? How do translucency, chroma, and embededness, artificiality, found color and illumination affect our experience of form? When is color the content of sculpture and how does that relate to or become the form? Looking beyond the polychromy vs color-of-the-material debate, beyond single-color vs. multi-color issues, I want to know what the possibilities are, and what works now, and how. In the displayed sculptures, eleven artists and I offer up some possibilities for discussion. Come join us.” — Maud Bryt
