Painting Marathon – IN-PERSON with Catherine Lepp
The Figure and the Landscape
Course Full – please email Registrar Amber Duntley firstname.lastname@example.org to join the waitlist.
In this Painting Marathon, students will explore the role of The Figure in the Landscape through drawing and painting and by studying historical examples. During the first week, we will make working paintings in the landscape (plein-air) in the morning and from the model in the afternoon (in the studio on 8th Street). Students will learn how to translate the life experience into a sustained synthetic painting in the studio. To expand our research, we may visit museums and make transcriptions from the works of masters and contemporary practitioners. Students will explore a variety of processes, surfaces and color exercises to develop their approach to creating a final piece. Two to three optional evening sessions will include slideshows and additional critiques.
