Monday Evening Sculpture “Welding”- with Lee Tribe

(no class October 9 for Columbus Day)

Course Description

Working on a rotational basis, this class works with both steel and clay.  We will compare the differences and similarities between these two chosen materials. Both can be hard and soft depending on temperature. Initially we will work in clay from the model, as a common focus, modeling the human head and figure and possible branching out from there. We shall endeavor to employ the inherent nature of the materials to enhance and enrich the image of the sculpture. As the class proceeds to work in clay I will introduce 2 students at time to the welding room, steel and some basic welding. In rotation each student will have several hours of working in steel and welding. Our goal will be to produce a number of finished sculptures in both steel and clay.
