Course Description

This Marathon will use collage as the primary means for translating interior space and figures within that space. Filtering perception through the use of collage will lead to an exploration of structural drawing elements such as value, temperature, light, space, mark, shape, compositional rhythms and disruptions, and shifting perspective.

Course Outline

Day 1: -Introduction & Lecture on collage, value, temperature, light, charged meeting points, space, object-ness, tactility
-Preparation of collage materials -Ink drawings of the model in space
-1 Collage, focus on value
Day 2: -Critique of work/discussion of value and temperature, direction of marks, composition,tension, charged meeting points, rhythm, tension
-Prepare additional collage materials to include pattern
-Collaging from model in space, focus on temperature and topics of discussion -1-2 pieces developed for the day, with prompts as the work progresses
Day 3: -Critique, focus on scale and space, compositional complexity and disruptions, expanding space and edges
-1 Collage for the day (this will segue into an expanding collage of the space)
Day 4: -Discussion with images: disrupting the space, cutting, moving, multiple points of view
-Develop one evolving large scale piece that will span the last two days of the workshop Day 5: -Studio time expanding works in progress
-Final Critique
