“While at the New York Studio School, I discovered how to paint with my guts. As I was pushed to work faster than my brain could think, I learned to have a visceral experience that is raw, immediate, and stunning. And then to look. 

I learned about making, but I also learned about myself; I’ve always referenced history painting, myths and catholic scenes mostly, but it was only during my MFA that I started to question it, to understand what it really means to use transcriptions as a devotional painting tool.

The Studio School also forever shaped my commitment to working from life, with the model, replenishing my visual vocabulary in a way that feels honest, sensitive and receptive. Shortly after graduating, I started hosting a weekly figure drawing night in our flat to share with peers from NYSS and beyond.”
