The New York Studio School offers tours of its National Historic Landmark building, located in the heart of the Greenwich Village Historic District.

The School’s complex has been run by American artists for over a century. The tour will discuss the storied art career and patronage of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, the founder of the Whitney Museum of American Art, who was also a prominent sculptor in her time. Participants will walk through the historic spaces that have played a significant role in the history of American art for over a century.

Location

New York Studio School is located at 8 West 8th Street, New York, NY 10011, between 5th and 6th avenues near Washington Square Park. It is reachable by the A, C, E, B, D, and F trains, as well as the 6.

Accessibility

Due to the historic nature of the building, the tour route will involve climbing multiple sets of stairs.
