Iron and Bronze
Works by Ed Smith and Lee Tribe
Monday, March 28 to Saturday April 30
Daily, 10am - 6pm
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 31, 6:30 - 8:30PM
Iron and Bronze, 2 great ages of Ovid's Metamorphoses is personified in the pairing of Ed Smith and Lee Tribe at the New York Studio School Gallery. Both sculptors use metal to evoke figural images that reveal a rich past, a distinctive future and a very immediate palpable present.
Smith and Tribe have long associations with NYSS, as faculty, lecturers and visitors. Their work reveals not only the force of distinct personalities but shows the presence of the hand of man in sculpture.
Along with their sculptures a selection of drawings by Smith and Tribe will be on view. The drawings help to form and inform the sculpture. The process and gesture of the drawings relates back to the sculpture over again creating a sympathy that is unusual in a 2 person exhibition. In fact the dialogue of the work of these artists in both 2 and 3 dimensions is extraordinary in its understanding and empathy.
Iron and Bronze, the sculptures of Ed Smith and Lee Tribe is on view at the New York Studio School Gallery at 8 west 8th street from March 28th to April 31st. The gallery is open from 10- 6pm daily. For more information please contact Fran @ NYSS - 212- 673-6466
